Dempsey Signs

As reported by Stand-Free at the beginning of the month
, Gary Dempsey has signed for the Dons after passing a medical three weeks ago. The delay was due to complications with his registration because his contract was terminated outwith the transfer window. This barred the 24-year-old Irishman from signing professionally for another Scottish Premier League club.

Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood astutely took advantage of a grey area in the rules, as he did with Sasa Ilic and previously with Jim Hamilton while he was at Dunfermline. Jimmy now wants to offer the Irishman a two-year deal in the summer.

Dempsey told bbc.co.uk: "I find it very strange that an unemployed player can't go on and sign for another club on professional terms. It would be good to get a few games played before the end of the season." Such is the madness of the transfer window, Gary.
