Dons pair scoop BoS gongs

Jimmy Calderwood has picked up the first piece of silverware of his Aberdeen career by earning the Bank of Scotland manager of the Month award for August. This is the third time that Jimmy has scooped the gong, which includes two of the last three awarded.

Jimmy told afc.co.uk:

"I'm absolutely delighted for everyone at the club. It is not just recognition for myself, but for the coaching staff and the players. It has been a great start to the season, although it could have been better if we had won every game!"

"Although Martin O'Neill is sitting at the top of league with twelve points, I suppose the expectation levels are different. I just hope we can continue our great start tomorrow against Dundee United."

The Dons completed an August awards double when Zander Diamond picked up the Bank of Scotland Young Player of the Month prize. This, coupled with the Scotland under-21 captaincy, completes a successful week for the big central defender, as well as the satisfaction of being involved in the current Aberdeen side's promising start to the season.

In comments on afc.co.uk, Calderwood said of Diamond:

"The lad thoroughly deserves it for the way he has played. I have worked with some fine central defenders in the past including Sami Hypia and Japp Stam so I can see the potential in him. He needs to keep his feet on the ground and not get too carried away but saying that has a tremendous attitude and it's a joy working with him."

Hopefully Jimmy's namedropping won't end up in ridicule like certain previous comments by AFC bosses (Mackie = Owen anyone?), and the prizewinning duo can continue their success starting at Tannadice tomorrow.
