Russell Update

Aberdeen are still waiting to find out the extent of Russell Anderson's facial injury that he sustained during Saturday's game at Inverness. The Captain had his face rearranged by big bruiser Brewster in a game that showed that the Caley Thistle player-boss is prepared to throw himself about to get his team into the Top 6 of the SPL with no regard for anyone that gets in his way. Aberdeen gaffer Jimmy Calderwood gave an update of the situation at lunchtime yesterday.

"Russell is going in to hospital today for an operation on his nose and to have a look at a suspected fracture of the cheek bone. If his cheek is ok then we are hopefully that he will only be out for a couple of weeks, however if he has a fracture then he may be out for the rest of the season. Obviously Russell would be a big miss for us as he is the captain and has been excellent all season."

There was better news on new midfield signing Gary Dempsy. Jimmy said "Dempsey is training well with the physio and will hopefully be available for selection for the first game after the split." This could be a Godsend for the Dons, as saturday yet again proved that while the defence is very solid, our midfield still lacks that creative cutting edge that helps kill off teams.

Jimmy also took time to give a special mention to new signing Lubomir Blaha who made his Dons debut on Saturday to a standing ovation from the huge, colourful and noisy Dons travelling support. "I felt that Blaha did well when he came on and it is great that we have him here for the next 8 weeks to allow us to see him play some more. He has a great touch for a big player and is very powerful."
