Thor Scores

The Dons' Icelandic striker Thorarinn Kristjansson has put himself into contention for a shock start at Parkhead after scoring the only goal in the reserve fixture against Motherwell this afternoon. Thor, making his comeback following two months out with injury, scored in the 58th minute to give the reserves a deserved victory at their 'home' ground of Montrose. With Noel Whelan suspended and Lubomir Blaha currently receiving treatment for an injury picked up last Saturday, Jimmy Calderwood will be delighted with the goalscoring return of the Icelandic misfit.

With the wind at their backs, Aberdeen dominated the first half with Scott Muirhead and John Stewart looking particularly impressive, although a combination of poor finishing and good defending kept the scoreline blank at the interval. And it was Muirhead who was the architect of the game's only goal, with a powerful run which reminded onlookers of when he burst into the first team two years ago. The youngster, likely to be shown the door by Calderwood in the summer, gallopped down the left wing before delivering a cross that was met by Kristjansson, who made no mistake from eight yards. Despite coming close on several more occasions and battling against an ever-increasing swirling wind, the young Dons failed to add to their tally.
