Two-per Kev

Kevin McNaughton's wonder strike on Saturday was amazingly his first for Aberdeen at Pittodrie, and only the second of his career with the club. Despite notionally being a defender, the signs when Super Kev began playing for the Dons were that he would surely score a few goals per season from the full-back position as he goes forward so well. After Saturday's mazy run and clinical finish, Kev says that he has immediately set himself the target of rectifying his lack of goals.

He told TEAMtalk: "The last time I scored was against Livi a couple of seasons back, so I'm glad to get it out of the way. It felt great, especially as it was at Pittodrie because the other one I scored was away from home. Goals have been a bit of a problem for us so everyone knows we must chip in with a few each and take the burden off the strikers.

"I'd like to think I can go on a run now and get a few more before the end of the season, but I probably thought that the last time so we'll just have to wait and see. Our aim is to catch Hibs, but it's going to be very difficult. They are flying at the moment and theirs is the first result we look for when we come in, but they don't look like slipping up yet."

With Kev recently taking up the role of central midfielder, the chances are that he will have the opportunity to get into positions to add to his meagre goals tally, and hopefully he will be joined by Noel Whelan who ended his enourmous lean spell thanks to great work by Darren Mackie.

Jimmy Calderwood told RedWeb: "I was delighted to see Noel get a goal. He was getting frustrated early in the match because the quality of passes in to him were just not good enough. That is to be expected on this pitch but he stuck at it and scored the goal after good work by Winter and a great cross from Darren Mackie."

Livingston were the perfect opponents for a team lacking in confidence, as they were absolutely woeful and will surely be relegated. With Kev and Noel - the Reds' players most lacking in self-belief recently - both hitting the back of the net, this could be the spark needed for them to go on a bit of a run. An ideal place for this to continue would be in the vital Tannadice double-header next week.
