CLUBS in Scotland and England often get accused of playing under-strength teams in the League Cup competition.

That will certainly be true of Aberdeen tonight, but through no fault of manager Jimmy Calderwood. For the Dons will again be missing most of their first choice defenders through injury.

New boy Karim Touzani, marauding full-back Richie Byrne, the ever-consistent Michael Hart and midfield dynamo Scott Severin are all missing, and they will be joined on the sidelines by Steve Lovell and Jamie Smith.

In addition to that, former Dundee stopper Derek Soutar will replace the rested Jamie Langfield and Zander Diamond is suspended after being sent off in the televised quarter-final defeat by Motherwell last season.

This will be a good opportunity for the Dons kids to get a run-out against lower league opposition, but Calderwood must be wary not to treat the game as a bounce match as there is still a cup to be played for at the end of the day.

THE MATCH will be played at Firhill this evening with a 7:45 kick off. Cash turnstiles are available with tickets costing £10 for adults and £5 concession.
