Young Dons Shine While Future Scots Flop

An Aberdeen reserve side full of first-team experience comfortably beat rangers 2-0 at Ibrox, with a Steven Craig strike then an own goal giving Neil Cooper's side the points in the SPL Reserve League.

The Dons went ahead after 14 minutes when a Scott Morrison run down the left led to Steven Craig meeting his inch-perfect cross to score. Ten minutes later Ricky Foster's powerful charge down the left led to Aberdeen's second of the first half, as his cross caused a stramash in the rangers defence and A. Dick turned the ball past his own goalkeeper under pressure from gangly frontman Budgie Stewart. Budgie then had a goal disallowed before the break, and only the woodwork and a superb save from the rangers 'keeper stopped Scotland Under-21 man Foster clinching a third.

The victorious team was: Esson, Hart, Morrison, Tiernan, Considine, Buckley, Foster, Adams, Craig, Stewart, Muirhead.

On a less pleasing note, Zander Diamond and Kevin McNaughton were involved in the shambles that is the Scottish national team, as the Future squad ran out dismal 3-0 losers against a Germany Future team short on recognisable names.

Diamond was to blame for the Germans' number three, but the Scots' performance as a whole was depressing as all the recent Scottish clichés were present - they huffed and puffed but never looked like matching the big, physical, efficient Germans.

Under the distinctly un-brave new era of Smith and Burns, is there any 'Future' for the Scottish national team? At least one set of 'huns' were defeated yesterday I suppose.
