Bye Bye Ryan

Aberdeen's 'mad as a brush' keeper Ryan Esson signed a 2 year deal with Shrewsbury Town at the weekend and left the club for the final time yesterday.

Aberdonian Esson joined the Dons from local side Parkvale and made his debut during the 1999/00 campaign. He went on to make 100 appearances for Aberdeen, the last of which was in the 2-2 draw that ended last season's fixtures.

Esson had an up and down career at Pittodrie, typified by his final season where he was called up to the Scotland squad and also lost his place to Jamie Langfield within the space of a couple of months.

A Pittodrie spokesperson said yesterday: "Everyone at Club would like to wish Ryan all the best for the future. He will be greatly missed and Pittodrie will certainly not be the same place without him!"

Esson was a great character, a fact that was emphasised in a Sunday Times interview in May 2005.

The introduction to the interview included this enlightening segment:

The woman sitting behind the reception at Pittodrie asks who you are
here to see.
"Ryan Esson." At this, she glances up. "Oh dear, you poor thing,"
she says drolly.
Then a smile flits across her face. A teammate of Esson's once
fondly described him as being "as daft as a brush", and so you wonder
what awaits.

Good luck in the future Ryan, from all at Aberdeen-Mad (As A Brush)!
